| WOULD SIR LIKE AN ETCHING ON HIS PETAL ????? |
Believe it or not, some people would go to any length for a
perceived advantage in karting but please, please read Pat Clarke's secret of karting
success then get on with it .
The latest fiasco involves the reed petal rules in Leopard Class. Reed petals control the
fuel flow into the engine as a piston would allow in a piston port engine, the fuel is
drawn into the crankcase by the sweep/suction of the piston and stopped buy closing
pressure of the piston on the reeds.
To arrest the usual gossip frenzy in the ranks convincing the punters to hand over another pay packet for another 2 tenths of improvement ,( ever wondered if you add up all the 2 tenths you can't even get 1 tenth better?) The promoter and importer Remo Racing, set about to have the relevant rule 'clarfied ' that only the IAME standard fibreglass reeds as supplied with the engine could be used, and eliminate the costly "designer and "carbon fibre types being manufactured by individuals. And if that wasn't enough, laser etching of such designer and carbon fibre reed petals was possible via a company in Sydney who could even etch IAME on them to make the unsuspecting race officials think they were legitimate...!!
Good on you Remo for trying so let's see what happened.
Item #17 of agenda at the NKC meeting 21 November 2008 records the promoters (Remo Racing) request, this was discussed and on completion - approved - the recorded motion for some reason, did not include and or was inadvertently not raised correctly in respect of the material description of the reeds. Just how in this day of digital recorders is the very relevant piece to the motion omitted ??? And, especially when this was to to be applicable from the 1st Jan 2009 as a new rule.....!.???
This
"omission" information, was raised by the promoter, and in correspondence to the NKC last week,
and responses requested - 4 of the 7 State delegates (a majority) had responded by 7AM on
Friday 27/2 (QLD - NSW - WA - SA -and later NT ) had answered to agree that an
Addendum should be issued to reflect and correct the intention. So you you'd
think being correction of an error, an addendum could be issued immediately.
But instead of this matter being attended in similar fashion to other "omissions' the
matter is suddenly subjected to a "protocol". Earlier changes to rules by
addenda this year were treated as "Admin
Tidy Ups" without NKC consent
! yet this item has been shelved for 25 days .?? Why impose such a "protocol"
just now unless it doesn't suit some other group.
Why don't the NKC
just tell the Secretariat to get on with it ?? We (NKC) make rules - you (Secretariat)
administer them and that includes when you stuff up what we resolved..!
Is it not the NKC that is in command of the sport ??? if not
then they should resign !
I wonder just how
many designer type and carbon fibre reed petals have been etched in order to flaunt and
take advantage of the rules ???...My suggestion would be that anyone who purchased
these items to quickly return them to the source - get your money back as you could expect
a $1000 fine and a 6 months suspension as a result of being caught out .
